Popsicle Stick Bird Feeder

I love birds. My kids love birds. We are making a bird feeder to bring the birds to our window. It’s pretty simple to create your own design. Those birds don’t care if it’s perfect or even pretty. They just want those seeds!

Supplies you will need to make a simple bird feeder:

50 Popsicle sticks, more or less. Plain or colored ones will do.

Elmer’s glue or glue dots

String or some plan to hang the feeder when finished

Birdseed

Directions for making your stick bird feeder:

Create a solid bottom for the feeder so the seeds don’t fall through. Lay a row of 10 sticks side by side. No need to glue this row because the next step will hold them together.

Glue 2-3 sticks on top of the solid bottom. Flip it over when it is dry enough to hold.

Begin gluing layers of sticks to build up the sides in a crisscross pattern. Build it up about 8 layers. Fewer layers is OK too.

Not so colorful works just as well.

Add a stick to the side for the bird to stand on. We have never actually seen a bird stand on ours but, it looked like a good idea!

Decide how you want to hang the feeder. String or wire should work. You can add some beads or fancy it up if you like.

Find a bird friendly place to hang your feeder. Add a handful of birdseed and keep an eye out for visitors.

It’s a bird hotel! be creative and construct your own design. The birds will enjoy a unique home.
